Important Things to Consider When in Need of a Pool Service Company
Have you just moved into a house with a pool? Good for you! It’s a great way to relax and have a good time with family and friends! Though, with a great pool come great responsibilities. In order to maintain your new pool you’ll probably need to hire a pool service company. This is probably one of the best things you can do as a pool owner, as a good pool service will save a decent amount of money in the long run and free up a lot of your time!
Now I’m sure you’ve done what most people would do and have done an internet search for a pool service company… immediately thereafter you were flooded with information about different companies stating that they are the best and will give you a free trial run, etc. etc…. This can definitely be overwhelming to the point where you just don’t know who would be the best to service your pool.
The first thing you want to do is check to see if they have a license to do business AND a contractors license. If they don’t have these things, for your own safety, DO NOT LET THEM INTO YOUR HOME OR YARD! These things are required of them in the state of Florida. When they do provide your with their contractors license number, take the time to check and make sure it is still up to date with the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation. This will help weed out some of the undesirables.
Secondly, you want to check and see if they have proper insurance. If they don’t have liability insurance you are putting yourself at risk if they somehow get injured while on your property. It may seem unlikely that an accident might happen, but your property is also at risk as well, especially if a bottle of acid is accidentally spilled on your valuable lawn furniture or stamped and stained concrete, your significant other may be very upset if this happens… SO DON’T LET IT! Do you think an uninsured pool service company will have the integrity to pay for those kinds of damages? No, they will up and disappear. Please also check that their insurance is current.
Something else you might want to take into consideration is their professionalism and level of customer service. Did they answer their phone? Did they show up on time? Do they look professional? These things seem like they should be a given, but you’d be surprised at how many companies can’t even do these things on a regular basis, especially when trying to earn your business. If they don’t promptly answer their phones normally, guess how hard it will be to get in touch with someone when it isn’t convenient for them? They should be easily reached and be willing to answer any and all questions you have for them – WITHOUT an attitude. A professional pool service company should also provide estimate forms and proper business cards, not the free flimsy ones you can easily get online. If they are not investing their own money into their business, then why should you invest your money in them? A professional pool service company technician will always be in uniform and have their chemicals properly labeled. Be sure to ask them about the chemicals they use to make sure they won’t cause any ill effects on you, your friends, or family members.
With a great pool come great responsibilities.
Lastly, you want to consider cost. As with most companies, you get what you pay for. You could easily go with the cheaper options, but most of the time those “extra savings” will end up costing you more in the long run. A cheap pool service will overlook things such as noisy motors, leaky seals, and small easily replaceable maintenance items. These kinds of thing can easily add up in the longer run to the point where you’d need to purchase new cleaners, motors, heaters, and pumps. When this happens, then those “savings” that you thought you were getting will go right down the drain so to speaks because you’ll be spending more replacing those items than you would have spending a little extra to keep them properly maintained. Do not fall for the “big savings” they may claim to provide. Know what you’re spending your money on!
Now you are better prepared to find the right pool service company for you. Don’t forget to also ask your friends and neighbors for referrals as well, because they may already have found the best company in your area!
