Cost

Ask about what you will be charged, but keep in mind that the cheapest plumber is usually not the best one. You always get what you pay for. Knowing what a plumber will cost you will always lessen the stress for you in the future in the case of an emergency when you need one right away. Keep in mind though that in the case of an emergency, you will be charged for driving time and emergency service charges on top of what they would normally charge. Always ask them what these costs are before an emergency happens so you won’t be shocked at the price when the time comes.

Experience

Find out what kind of experience the plumber has. This is important because if you hire a inexperienced plumber you’ll probably end up needing to hire another one later to fix what the first one attempted to fix. Plumbers basically come in two varieties, ones that take care of emergency situations and ones who do plumbing renovations and installations. Keep in mind that a plumber that takes care of emergencies may not be qualified to put any additions into your home or office.

License and Insurance

Always ask to see their license so you can check to see that it is up to date. Make sure to also check to see if they have workers’ compensation insurance to protect you in case there is an injury.

Written Estimate

Ask for a written estimate to be sent to you. If they are unwilling to provide one, then it may be time to look for a different plumber as any respectable plumber should be more than willing to provide you with one. Getting one will keep you safe from being surprised at a huge price once the job has been completed.

References

It is always smart to ask your friends, family members, and neighbors for references of a good plumber because they may have already found the best one in the area.
